Moth Caresheet – Sorted by family

Dear visitor,

This website contains documented life histories of Lepidoptera species (mainly moths but also some butterflies), based on my personal experience as an insect breeder. They have been sorted and arranged by moth family (taxonomical level) since both faunistically, and when it comes to breeding moths in captivity, they are rather distinct.

One exception was made for the Erebidae family; I have broken them up into subfamilies instead. Taxonomically, faunistically and morphologically, I found the Erebidae to be too diverse to be able to make any useful generalisations for moth breeders. Tiger moths (Arctiinae-Erebidae), Tussock moths (Lymantriinae-Erebidae) and ‘True’ Erebids (Erebinae-Erebidae) will have their own category on this website.

Unless stated otherwise, all the pictures and information on this website have been generated by me, the author (Bart Coppens). I am an (amateur) entomologist from the Netherlands that breeds butterfly- and moth species in captivity, and documents their life histories. I love writing about them and photographing them! I hope this website constitutes a useful resource. Please enjoy.

Dear reader – thank you very much for visiting! Your readership is much appreciated.  Are you perhaps…. (see below)
