Actias heterogyna host plant

Actias heterogyna  (Kishida, 1993)
Suitable host plants:
Liquidambar formosana (Altingiaceae)”Chinese sweetgum”
Liquidambar styraciflua (Altingiaceae) “Sweetgum”
Eucalyptus gunii (Myrtaceae) “Cider gum”
Betula pendula (Betulaceae) “Silver birch”

Recommendations: One of the  preferred natural host plants of Actias heterogyna subaurea is Liquidambar formosana. In captivity they will accept alternatives in the genus Liquidambar and will most possibly feed on a broad variety of Liquidambar species. They have also been raised successfully on Eucalyptus and Betula. Unconfirmed reports also mention Pistachia, Juglans, Salix and Schinus as potential host plants, but these claims cannot be taken into account unless confirmed.

although there may potentially be truth to them. Thus, more experimentation will be worthwhile.

Common name: None
Distribution: China and Taiwan
