Genus Caligula (Moore, 1862) is a genus of Saturniidae generally found in Asia (both tropical and temperate) and the Far East (Russia). They are part of the group of ‘peacock’ or ’emperor’ moths and have a strong alliance to Saturnia, Neoris, Perisomena, Agapema and others. They have quite colourful, hairy caterpillars and are often decorated with eyespots.
